Carol Christine Shumaker, 77, of Wellington, passed away on November 20, 2024, at the Cleveland Clinic in Avon.  Born in Lima, Ohio to Mary Ellen and Harold Nester on July 17, 1947, Carol grew up in Wapakoneta and graduated with the Class of 1965 from St. Joe's.  In 1969, she earned her nursing degree from St. Anthony School of Nursing in Columbus.

Carol was a devoted registered nurse who worked at the Cleveland Clinic in the cardiac intensive care unit and also at the Lorain Community Hospital. She attended St. Patrick Catholic Parish and often volunteered her time at funeral luncheons.

Carol served on the Wellington Township Board of Zoning Appeals, volunteered for 13 years at Wellington Schools, and was proud to be a Red Cross Certified Lifeguard.

The definition of a caregiver, Carol was always there for the people in her life. She loved socializing with her family and friends. Carol treasured the time spent with her grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, was an excellent seamstress, and liked tending her garden.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Dennis; adoring children, Monique (Aaron) Sherban, Michelle (Timothy) Mitchell, Scott (Tracy Neu) Shumaker, Todd (Summer) Shumaker, and Dean (Kate Fitzgibbons) Shumaker and grandchildren, Emma, Grace, Lukas, Regan, and Joseph. Carol is also survived by her siblings, Sylvia, Linda, John, Julia, and Judie; sister-in-law, Jaqueline; brothers-in-law, Donald and Richard and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen and Harold, Carol was preceded in death by her brothers, Gary and Kevin; brothers-in-law, G. Thomas and David and her beloved grandmother, Monica Weiher.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, November 24th from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main Street, Wellington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 25th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Parish, 512 N. Main Street, Wellington. Burial will follow at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Avon.
