Obituary

Charles M. Conklin, 85, of Wellington, died Friday December 11, 2009 at Cleveland Metro Health Center. Born in Rochester Ohio on October 5, 1924, to the late Lee and Pearl (nee Merrill) Conklin, Charles was a lifelong Southern Lorain County resident. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1942. Charles worked for Paul Mills Construction and farmed his family property. He retired from the Elyria Post of the Ohio Highway State Patrol after 20 years of service in the maintenance department. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wellington. An ardent woodworker, Charles always enjoyed tinkering with any item he could get his hands on. For many years, Charles was a vendor at Jamie's Flea Market. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ladonna Conklin; three daughters,Karen (Michael) Stemple of Norwalk, Sandra (Joe) Kolenda of LaGrange and Deborah Auble of Massillon; four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In addition, Charles is survived by six siblings, Lela Breyley, Gerald Conklin, Neva Bournival, Richard Conklin, Norma Siman and Vivian Seely. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ella Conklin. A private family service will be held at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington with Rev. Lea Mahan officiating. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Wellington First United Methodist Church, 127 Park Place, Wellington, Ohio 44090.
