Obituary

Charles 'Ed' Stanley, Sr., age 75, of New London, died Thursday, September 24, 2009 at his home after a short illness. He was born March 20, 1934, in Ritchie County, West Virginia, son of the late George and Estella Gae (Cline) Stanley. Ed lived in West Virginia until he married in 1955 then they moved to Massillon, back to West Virginia, in 1958, to Oberlin in 1960 and to New London in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Ed worked the oil fields for Haught Drilling Co. in WV, at Republic Steel in Massillon and at the Elyria Foundry as a casting inspector until his retirement. Ed attended the First Baptist Church in New London. He enjoyed woodworking and working in his garden. He is survived by his wife, whom he married October 18, 1955, Loretta (Parks) Stanley; 3 sons, Charles Edward Stanley, Jr. of Oberlin, James William (Tina) Stanley of Jacksonville, Florida, and Robert Brian (B.J.) Stanley of New London 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; his brother, George Stanley, Jr. of Smithville, WV; his sister, Hazel Baker of Parkersburg, WV. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Paul Albert Stanley, Sr., Wallace Preston Stanley and 2 sisters, Newana Pauline Stanley and Charlotte Sellers. Friends may call from 5 ' 8 p.m., Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Dan Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland County Memorial Park. Memorials if desired may be given to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or to Ashland County Cancer Assoc., 380 East Fourth St., Ashland, Ohio 44805.
