Obituary

Claer E. 'Cope' Copeland, 94, of Wellington, died Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Abbewood Home in Elyria. Claer was born August 3, 1915 to the late Charles Ernest and Clara M. Copeland. Claer was a graduate of Kent High School and served in the Civil Air Patrol during WWII. Claer moved to Wellington in 1950 and worked for Bendix Westing House in Elyria for many years. He was very active with the Masons, becoming a 32nd degree and was also a member of the Al Koran Shriners. Claer enjoyed flying, keeping his license until recently, and traveling. He was also a skilled wood worker, building much of his home on his own. Claer is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen (nee Zeroll) Copeland; a daughter, Cherrine E. Sell of Harrodsburg, KY; two sons, Carl Edward 'Ed' (Lisa) Copeland of Wellington, and Jay 'Rick' (Karen) Jackson of Elyria; 10 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren. Claer was preceded in death by a sister, Avis Davidson. Friends and family will be received Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street Wellington, where services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with Grandson Rev. Dan Jackson officiating. A Masonic service will be held on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Interment will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.
