Obituary

Cloyd "Bill" Simonson, 94, died Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Sprenger Elms Retirement Village. Bill was a lifelong Wellington resident; he was born in Huntington on September 20, 1919 to the late George A. and Clara Belle (nee Jones) Simonson. Bill proudly served his country during World War II as a military policeman (MP) in the Army Air Corps and was a lifetime member of the Wellington Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Furthermore, the Sterling Foundry Company in Wellington, Ohio employed him for over twenty years before he decided that he wanted a career change, in which he owned and operated his own home restoration and painting company. Bill was a member of the Wellington Eagles Arie 2051 for over 76 years, serving as president in 1960-1961 as well as being a board trustee for twenty years and was a member of the Wellington Masonic Lodge (32 Mason), as well as belonging to the Lorain County Scottish Rite Society. He was an avid fisherman as well as a mentor to young Boy Scouts. Furthermore, he was a member of the Golden Age Membership of Wellington, Ohio. In addition, he was an elected official of the Wellington Board of Public Affairs. He also attended the First United Methodist Church of Wellington. Survivors include his children, Ronald (Bert) Simonson, Pamela (Douglas) Wilgor, both of Wellington, Dennis (Carmela) Simonson, of Arlington, VA and Wayne (Ruth) Simonson, of Wellington; grandchildren, Scott Simonson, Sara (Joshua) Cutlip, Stephanie and Stephen Simonson along with step grand children, Kenneth Natterer, John Yaworsjk and Joanna Stanforgh. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Maxine, in 2009. Brothers, Claude, Harry, Donald, George, Lyle and a sister, Pauline McKisson, also preceded him in death A private memorial service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington. In lieu of flowers, the Simonson family suggests donations to Sprenger Hospice, 2610 E. Aurora Rd., Twinsburg, OH 44087. Internment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington. Arrangements were entrusted to Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, Wellington.
