Clyde Hotchkiss, age 72, of New London died Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at the Cleveland Clinic, after a short illness.
Clyde was born May 9, 1935 in New London, son of the late, Charles & Dixie (Byron) Hotchkiss. He grew up in the New London area and graduated from New London High School in 1955. He lived in Sandusky for about 20 years and the past 15 years in New London.
Mr. Hotchkiss was an engineer for WLEC Radio in Sandusky for many years. He was also a manager at the Ponderosa and later the L&K Motel both in Norwalk, he retired in 1993.
After a serious heart attack in 1994 he became the 357th recipient of a heart transplant at the Cleveland Clinic. He was an active volunteer and spokesperson for Life Banc and an American Red Cross volunteer; he was awarded the volunteer of the year award from both organizations. Along with several friends he formed the Buckeye Dobbers, arranging bus trips to casinos and Indians games. He was active in the New London and Huron County Pamona Grange. He was also a member of the Lake Erie Fireland's Tourist Council.
Clyde is survived by his daughter, Nikki Hotchkiss of Norwalk; best friend and former wife, Sondra Hotchkiss of Sandusky; 2 grandchildren, Scott and Amanda; and sisters-in-law, Roberta of Wooster and Yvonne of Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Wendell and Dale Hotchkiss.
Friends may call 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London, where funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2007. Pastor Jamie Stewart of the Milan Baptist Church will officiate and burial will follow in Grove Street Cemetery, New London.
