Obituary

Constance M. (Arnold) Smith, 90, entered into heavenly rest on June 19, 2024.  She was born on March 9, 1934, in Sandusky, Ohio, to the late James and Christine (Woods) Arnold.  Constance was a lifelong resident of Norwalk and Monroeville, Ohio until 2006, when she moved to the state of Georgia.  She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1952.

Constance enjoyed gardening, upholstering furniture, and knitting and crocheting for friends and family.  She worked for Norwalk Furniture, retiring after 30 years of service.  She was an avid reader, often listening to her gospel music, traveling, and keeping up with life events on social media.   Most of all, Constance loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who were able to gather with her and help celebrate her 90th birthday, this past March.

Constance was a member of Warren Chapel, Norwalk Community CME Church, and in Georgia she attended the Dixie Grove Baptist Church. Constance and her family were spiritually nourished by Senior Pastor Michael A. Thomas of New Life Church of Lithonia in the final years of her life.

Survivors include her children, Priscilla Debra Smith of Jonesboro, GA, Desiree Smith of Jonesboro, GA, Harold and Janice Smith of Norwalk, Ohio, and Stephanie and Reggie Shine of Jonesboro, GA; grandchildren, Olivia and David Jones, Karla and Oliver Dilligard, Erica Stoll, Heather and Tyrone Shafer, Meagan Hunter, Cornell and Jordon Smith, Tyler Smith, Ian Hunter, Damien and Christina Hunter, Madison Hawkins, John Hawkins, Jamonica and Patrick Lee, and Caden Shine; great grandchildren, Sydnei, Jabez, Zane, Zaria, Ayden, Duke, Carter, Harper, Kenzie, Elena, Kamden, Maddox, Mason, Eian, Aubrey, Alana, Damian Jr., and P.J. and Peyton.

Constance was preceded in death by her parents, James and Christine (Woods) Arnold; her loving husband of 52 years, Harold Smith; daughter, Denise; son, Douglas; brother, Delbert Woods; and sister, Dellene Oglesby.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful nurses at Bridgeway Hospice.  Especially to CNA's Rosalyn Johnson and Hope Cooley for their compassion and professionalism during Constance's journey and to the family during those final days.  To friends and extended family, the family extends a thank you for the unwavering support, prayers, and kind words, which have been a beacon of light in the darkest hours.  The visits, messages, and gestures of love have meant the world to them and have helped them navigate through the grief.  Heartfelt thank you especially to Ben-Ahmad (Constance's beloved friend/son) and Ray Towns.

"Mom, you were the heart and soul of our family.  Your favorite bird, the hummingbird, symbolizes joy, freedom, perseverance, creativity, love, and healing—all qualities you embodied throughout your life.  Like a hummingbird, you brought vibrancy and grace into our lives.  We will carry your memory in our hearts always, cherishing the lessons you taught us and the love you showered upon us."

Friends and family are invited to Woodlawn Cemetery, 200 Woodlawn Ave., in Norwalk, Ohio, on Friday, June 28, where Constance will be celebrated in a home going service.  Loved ones may gather and visit from 12 p.m. (noon) until the time of the 1 p.m. graveside service.  Burial will follow.  Attendants are also invited to a repass following the graveside service at Constance's son's home, Harold Duane Smith, 71 State Route 61, Norwalk, Ohio, 44857.  Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, Norwalk, is honored to assist the family with Constance's arrangements.  Online expressions of sympathy may be made by visiting: www.walkereastmanheydingerfh.com
