Obituary

Craig A. Warner, 91, of Wellington, passed away Monday, December 26, 2011 at the Elms Nursing Home in Wellington. He was born in Lewis County, West Virginia on June 18, 1920. Craig was a graduate of Alum Bridge High School, West Virginia, moving to Ohio with his wife Orpha in the late 1940's and living in Wellington since 1987. He joined the United States Army on June 3, 1942. He served in World War II from November 1, 1942 to November 9, 1945, serving in 798th Air Mat Squadron, touring Italy in the Sicilian, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno Battles and Campaigns. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He received his Honorable Discharge as a Private First Class on November 20, 1945. He joined the Sheet Metal Workers International Local 33 as a Sheet Metal Worker on August 10, 1950, and retired on July 1, 1982, after 32 years of service. He received his 40 year pin of continuous membership in the Sheet Metal Workers International Association on December 18, 2007. Craig enjoyed hunting, camping, gardening, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed working on engines and attended several events with the LaGrange Engine Club. Craig was also well known for his welding skills, his love of inventing gadgets and contraptions, and tinkering in his garage. Craig will be missed by his son Thomas L. Warner and his wife Teresa of Guthrie, Oklahoma; daughter Nancy L. Stein and her husband Dale of Lorain; daughter Sandra D. Guzman and her husband Phil of Elyria; brother Bill Warner, of Orange City, FL., 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Orpha Warner (nee Bennett), his father William Warner, his mother Ella Warner (nee Bailey), his five brothers, Brooks, Blair, Cliff, Cline and Lyle, and his four sisters Bessie Warner, Coral Warner, Doris Heflin, and Ruth Self. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 noon, Friday, December 30, 2011, at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington. Sister Patricia Adams, a Chaplain at New Life Hospice, will officiate. Friends are welcome to join the family for lunch immediately after the services at the Wellington Reservation Visitors Center, 535 Jones Road, Wellington. A private burial will take place at Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria at a later date. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to New Life Hospice, 5525 N. Abbe Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
