Obituary

Cynthia Lee "Cyd" Butti, 63, a lifelong Wellington resident died Sunday, November 29, 2015. Born in Oberlin on June 16, 1952 to Wayne Dale and Patricia (nee Willard) McConnell, Cyd graduated from Wellington High School in 1970. A gifted businesswoman, Cyd ran several small businesses throughout her life, including Balloon Affair, SweetStuff Bakery, where she was known as "the Cake Lady", Crafty Ladies Gift Shop and the cabinet shop, Singin' Saws. Cyd was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wellington and the Wellington Women's League. A true artist, Cyd enjoyed a multitude of mediums including ceramics, oil painting, woodworking, calligraphy and flower arranging. She loved cake decorating and taught an adult class at the Lorain County JVS. She also enjoyed antique furniture repair and was gifted in making filling look like real wood grain. She always loved signing and shared her talents in the WHS High School choir, the church choir and the Wellington Community Chorus. Cyd played softball until the age of 30. Survivors include her children, Matt (Natalie) Butti, of GA and Adam (Shelley) Butti, of PA; companion of 30 years, Richard Smith; step children, Richard Smith II, of N. Eaton, Bruce Smith, of Boca Raton, FL; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren and former husband and father of their children, Timothy Butti. She is also survived by her mother, Patricia McConnell and a brother, Gary McConnell, of Wellington. Cyd was preceded in death by her father, Wayne McConnell. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 3 p.m. at the Wellington First United Methodist Church with refreshments in the fellowship hall afterwards. The Butti family suggests donations in memory of Cyd be made to New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053 or to the Wellington First United Methodist Church, 127 Park Place, Wellington.
