Dale Allen Matcham, 92, of Wellington, died Saturday, March 30, 2024, under the care of the Hospice of the Western Reserve. Born on December 13, 1931in Oberlin, he was the son of the late Forrest and Lena (nee Coates) Matcham. Dale was a graduate of Brighton High School and joined the United States Army following graduation.
Dale was a telephone foreman with GTE for many years and farmed his uncle's farm in Ashland in the evenings. He was a member of the Wellington Kiwanis as well as the Eagles. Dale enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, or trapping. For a time he lived on a boat in Port Clinton and then a campground in Florida where he would go shrimping in the Indian River. An avid sports fan, Dale enjoyed following Cleveland and OSU teams and watching his kids and grandkids compete.
Survivors include his sons, Jed Matcham, Eric Matcham, both of Wellington, Todd Matcham, of LaGrange, Brad (Laura) Matcham, of Maumee, and Marc (Alex) Matcham, of Lawrenceville, NJ; grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Jaxon Dale, and Anna; and siblings, Lester Matcham, Linda Marley, and Paul Matcham. Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Elizabeth (nee Cave) Matcham; and siblings Bob Matcham, Laura Sooy, and Louise Anderson.
