Obituary

Damon Paul Hill, 82, of Wellington, died Monday, March 21, 2011 at Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin. Born on August 13, 1928 in Duck, WV to the late William and Lois (nee Friend) Hill, Damon lived in Lorain County for most of his life and served in the United States Army from 1946 until 1948. For many years Damon was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service in Oberlin. He enjoyed hunting, painting, golfing and playing poker with his friends and family. Damon also loved being a grandfather and treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Edna (nee Dumke), whom he married on July 15, 1950; children, Richard Allen (Deborah) Hill, of Cambridge, MA, Linda (John) Driscoll, of Norwalk, Marilyn (Frank) Vukovich, of LaGrange, and Pamela Jane (Bernie) Squire, of Wellington; grandchildren, Jeremy, Nicholas, Melanie, Jason, Dawn, Elizabeth, Melissa and Sara and 17 great grandchildren. Other survivors include his siblings, Ollen Hill, of North Carolina, Darrel Hill and Marion Campbell, both of Oberlin and many nieces and nephews. Damon was preceded in death by sister, Beulah Coates and his stepmother, Halsey Faye Hill. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until the 7:30 p.m. prayer service, on Wednesday, March 23 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland, 3601 S. Green Road, Suite 100, Cleveland, OH 44122 and the American Heart Association, 3505 Embassy Pkwy # 100, Akron, OH 44333.
