David (Dave) Lynn Berry, 85, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, March 5, 2026. He was born on June 12, 1940, in Obetz, Ohio, to the late Donald and Carmen (Wiseman) Berry.
Dave graduated from Willard High School (1958) and later attended Toledo Barber College in Toledo, Ohio. For over 50 years, Dave’s barber chair at the Monroeville Barber Shop on Monroe St. was an institution of the Monroeville community. His commitment to the community extended beyond his shop, notably, through 31 years of service as a Bronson Township Trustee.
Dave never met a stranger; he loved striking up conversations with people anytime, anywhere, including a chance encounter with Kid Rock during a vacation rest stop. He was an avid Euchre player, a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, and he enjoyed spending time with friends over coffee at Burger King or lunch at the Huron County Senior Center. He was a long-time member of the Norwalk First United Methodist Church, the Norwalk Eagles, and the Bronson–Norwalk Conservation Club, where he maintained the grounds for many years.
Above all, Dave cherished his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather. Rarely without a pocket full of candy, he delighted in spoiling his grandsons and negotiating playful “deals” to give them what they wanted. As he liked to say, “Grandpa’s his name; spoiling’s his game.”
David was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Karen Lee (Shelley) Berry; his two eldest sons, Gregg and Duane; his parents, Donald and Carmen Berry; in-laws Max and Alma Shelley; his brother, William Berry; and his sister, Karen Markwell.
He is survived by his son, Robert (Karen) Berry; four grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation for David will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, Ohio.
