David J. DeWitt, 73 of Greenwich, died Saturday, August 4, 2012 in Springfield, Ohio, after a sudden illness. He was born November 8, 1938 in Norwalk, son of the late, Hubert & Edith (Dove) DeWitt. David was a lifelong resident of Greenwich and a 1956 graduate of Greenwich High School. David served in the Army National Guard in Norwalk and then the Mansfield Air National Guard 179th TAG, where he retired. David retired as a captain from the Huron County Sherriff's Department. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon (Pettit) DeWitt; sons, Bradley of Willard, Matthew of Katy, Texas and Mark of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Adam and wife, Marisa, Natasha, Travis, Ellisha, Logan, Haley and Taylor; great grandchildren, Aden and Annabella; sister, Nancy (Bill) Kelley of Elyria; and a brother, John (Frieda) DeWitt of Urbana. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 8th at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials if desired may be made to a favorite charity.
