David Courtney Franklin, 75, of Wellington, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018 at home surrounded by his family following a lengthy illness. Born on April 8, 1943 in Barrett West Virginia, he was the son of the late Christine (nee Smedley) and Courtney Franklin.
David worked for Ford in Lorain where he built seats for Cougars and T-Birds before retirement. He was the vice president of Sons of American Legion where he also volunteered his time with scholarships and always oversaw the presentation of donation checks to Well Help. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, wood working, making custom cabinets and designing hardwood floors.
Most importantly he loved his family and making memories with them. A favorite past time was taking bear hunting trips to Main and elk hunting trips out west with his sons. He adored all of his grandchildren and will be loved and missed by all who knew and loved him.
David leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Darlene (nee Mullins) Franklin; children, Mary Hicks, David and James Franklin; grandchildren, Amanda and Michael (Tina)Hicks; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Clorice, Travis, Noela, Michael Jr., Ariella and Ryli; siblings, Sandra Stanley and LaDonna (Bob) Foster; sister-in-laws, Shirley and Marcia Franklin, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jerry and James Franklin.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, September28, 2018 from 11-1pm where services will follow at 1pm at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington.
