David A. Sayre, 50, of Ashland, returned home to both his alma mater of OSU and heaven on Monday, February 7, 2011 he departed from his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born in Logansport, Indiana on June 11, 1960. Due to David's large AVM and his miraculous brain function that stumped all the specialist before and after his bled in
2009 plans were made for research. David's wish was to be donated to OSU in hopes of improving knowledge and treatment of brain disabling conditions.
He graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1978 and received a Bachelor's degree in Education from The Ohio State University in 1982.
David was a teacher, tutor, writer and minister of youth and any one searching the truth. As a youth he attended and then became a counselor at Northwestern Ohio Christian Youth Camp. David attended and was a member of many churches in many states as he journeyed through life. The two most prominent in Ohio were Dover Church Of Christ and Ashland Christian Church and the latter he regularly attend last until he was unable. David also sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was as a guest preacher in a variety of churches. He and his wife Christine wrote several children's and spiritual books, had an outreach ministry wherever he went. Storytelling to the young or old for lessons and help or light entertainment was his favorite venue. He loved the Lord with all his heart and their marriage and life together was blessed with a "pay it forward ministry". David told stories at museums , children's hospitals, aftercare programs, libraries and even at the Olivesburg General Store at the holidays.
Their books were in two Christian bookstores one in New Philadelphia and one in Columbus. These bookstores were delighted when David would entertaining children in costume with baby bunnies live from the story and the Ringler's farm. No storytelling would be complete without the main character, Dr. Ima Tea Bear attending. David went from the quite introverted character that he was in his daily life to a quit dramatic speaker when he had a soul to save or a child to help with self esteem. He will be missed by many people in many places.
David loved playing ping pong, tennis, swimming, camping, riding bikes and exercising at the Y when feeling better. His newest form of sports was accomplished from his living room lift chair on the Wii. He said he was never competitive before he married Christine but he took to the challenge of it too well to not be part of him and Euchre would always bring him to the table even in the past 3 weeks because he loved card games. And of course, he also enjoyed watching OSU football, while eating the traditional salsa/w/cheese and torita chips or straw hat chili.
