Obituary

David Findlay Scott, 72, of Wellington, passed away on December 10, 2014 at his home. Born on June 26, 1942 in Lackawana, NY, David grew up in East Aurora, NY. He made Wellington his home in 1976. David graduated from East Aurora High School in 1960, and spoke fondly of being on his high school swim team. He went on to earn two Associate Degrees at UCLA at Orange. During his college years, David played basketball, and even had the opportunity to play against Kareem Abdul Jabbar. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine. He was the District Manager at the Elyria Chronicle and worked at Forest City for 20 years until his retirement in 2009. A member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Wellington, David also believed strongly in volunteering in his community. He worked at the Wellington schools as a referee for both Volleyball and Basketball, coached Olympics of the Mind, worked with various honors classes, and helped direct plays. David also taught Bridge, served as the Recreation Director at the Town Hall and spearheaded the Well-Help Annual Variety Show. He was also a member of the Wellington Eagles Aerie #2051. A master points holder in Bridge, David also loved playing chess and greatly enjoyed teaching others how to play. He had a passion for writing. David wrote 6 plays, 2 of which were published works; one was adapted by Kids on Broadway. David is survived by his loving wife who was by his side for 46 years, Joyce (nee Bird) Scott; children, Cathy Ann (Jim) Womble, of Okeechobee, FL, Steve Curtis (Becca) Findlay, of Woodstock, GA, Jeff Scott (Diane) Findlay; of Acworth, GA, Christina Jane (Kirk) Jordan, of Sullivan, OH and Caroline Mary (Gary) Kimzey, of Kingwood, TX; 16 grandchildren, Jamie, Jenna, Kimberley, Daniel, David, Ashley, Chase, Blake, Alexis, Ethan, Cory, Gage, Austin, Chad, Joe and Nate; 13 great grandchildren with 2 more great grandchildren on the way. He is also survived by a sister, Sunny Andes, of East Aurora, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Curtis and Lona Robin (nee Van Velsor) Findlay; brother, Jim and his beloved Gammie. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, December 18 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 140 S. Main Street, Wellington at 10 a.m. with Rev. Brian Burke officiating.
