Obituary

David L. Steinen, age 71, of Nova, died Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at the Rehabilitation & Nursing Center at Firelands after a short illness. He was born June 2, 1936 in Sandusky, Ohio, son of the late Gilbert Steinen, Sr. and Thelma (Galloway) Steinen. He was a 1954 graduate of Sandusky St. Mary's High School, a 1958 graduate of Bowling Green State University, where he was on the University's golf team. He also attended Kent State University for his degree in Horticulture. Mr. Steinen served in the U.S. Army. He had worked at Plum Brook Country Club in Sandusky for 25 years. He owned and operated Rolling Acres Golf Course in Nova for 20 years. Mr. Steinen was a member of the Wellington American Legion Post 8, the Wellington AmVets, the New London V.F.W. Pheifer-Mathers Post 4654 and the Ashland Eagles. He loved the outdoors, nature, hunting and golf. He is survived by 2 daughters and 1 son, Teresa Rohr of Nova, Christopher Steinen of Nova, Sheryl (Bryan) Puder of Wakeman; 4 grandchildren, Justin, Janelle, Paige Rohr of Nova and Sara Thompson of Sandusky; 3 sisters and 1 brother, Gilbert Steinen, Jr. of Sandusky, Doris ( Harry) McGookey of Sandusky, Sally (Vito) Dibari of Sandusky; Mary (Jim) Petrie of Sweetwater, Texas; a brother in law, Henry Carlsen of Avon Lake, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Carlsen and his grandson, Will Douglas Thompson. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2007 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London. A mass will be held at Our Lady Of Christians Parish, Community of Jesus the Good Shepherd, Nova Catholic Church, 240 St. Rt. 511 , Nova, at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2007. Memorials if desired may be given to the Rehabilitation & Nursing Center at Firelands, checks made payable to: Susanne Rusnak, Activity Dept., 204 W. Main St., New London, Ohio 44851.
