Dean Eaton Roice, 84, a lifelong Wellington area resident, died Friday, December 18, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Cleveland on September 18, 1925 to the late Enola (nee Eaton) and Court Roice. In 1943, Dean graduated from Wellington High School.
He owned the Sohio service station on East Herrick, starting in the 1940's, prior to becoming a mail carrier for 23 years. In 1982, he retired from the United States Postal Service and enjoyed farming on the side during his retirement. During his first camping trip in 1968, Dean instantly loved the hobby. For years, he camped with his wife; they were members of the Good Sam Camping Club and the Holiday Travel Club for many years. Dean was also interested in John Deere antique farm machinery.
Dean leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Beverly (nee Field); daughter, Judith Quast of Florida; and 2 granddaughters, Mindy Simms of Florida and Shannon Quast of New York. Dean is also survived by his nephew, Keith Roice of Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Harold.
Friends and family will be received Monday, December 21 from 2-6 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St, Wellington and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service with Rev. Lea Mahan officiating. Burial will follow at Huntington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dean's memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church Steeple Fund, 127 Park Place, Wellington, Ohio 44090 or to New Life Hospice, 5255 N. Abbe Rd., Elyria, Ohio 44035.
