Dean W. Smith, 83, of Wellington, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph in Lorain. Born on October 27, 1927, Dean was the son of Herman and Ollie Lydia (nee Hanley) Smith.
Dean was a job setter in the Chaser Department at Ridge Tool and retired after 45 years with the company. He enjoyed golfing and worked at the Echo Valley Golf Course. An avid Cleveland sports fan, Dean was also a longtime member of the Wellington F.O.E. #2051. In younger years, he enjoyed annual deer hunting trips to Wyoming with family and friends. A well known figure in Wellington, Dean could often been seen at Dog Tracks Diner or Dimitri's enjoying the company of those around him. Dean was loved by everyone who knew him and had a laugh that made everyone smile.
He is survived by his sons, Tim (Karen) Smith, Tom (Agnes) Smith, Ted (Molly) Smith; daughters, Kim (Jeff) Smith-Brooks, Judy Wojciechowski;11 grandchildren, Adam Smith, Jill (Matt) Shamis, Zachary (Jess) Smith, Darin Shepherd, Jacob Brooks, Nathan Brooks, Sarah Brooks, Hailey Smith, Kelsey Smith, Kevin Smith and Grayson Smith and 5 great grandchildren, Carter, Julia, Addison, Cheyanne and Tyler. Dean is also survived by his brother, Melvin (Juanita) Smith. In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Arlene (nee Hanes) in 1997 after 35 years of marriage and siblings, Herald 'Jake', Evelyn, William 'Billy' and Ernest.
Friends will be received on Friday, August 19 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with an FOE service taking place at 7:30 p.m. at the United Church of Huntington, 26677 State Route 58, where services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. Memorial donations can be sent to the Wellington Eagles #2051, 631 S.
