Dennis Hickey, age 88, of Ashland passed away at Brethren Care in Ashland on Wednesday, September 14, 2016. Born June 10, 1928 in Berea, to the late Thomas and Helen (nee Schoenherr) Hickey, he graduated from Ruggles-Troy School in 1947. After graduation, Dennis married Laura nee Steffen on June 26, 1947. They shared 69 years together. Dennis had owned Polk Feed and Supply and Hickey Assoc. Trucking. He was also a farmer and had raised livestock and thoroughbred horses. Dennis was a "jack of all trades" and had proudly helped with the construction of the Our Lady Help of Christians in Nova. He will be especially remembered for his work ethic and sense of humor. Dennis enjoyed playing cards and checkers. Survivors include his wife, Laura; children, Tim (Peg) Hickey, Cliff Hickey, Linda (Mike) Bromley, Cindy Martin, Nancy (Wayne) Spencer, Tom (Kelly) Hickey and Lisa Kerr; daughter-in-law, Lila Hickey; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; siblings, Don (Helen) Hickey, Paul (MaryLou) Hickey and Patricia Mumaw; brother-in-law, Brooks Ringler and sister-in-law, Delora Steffen. In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Hickey; daughter, Debra Stewart; son-in-law, Jeff Martin; siblings, Mary (John) Bonfiglo and Ruth Ringler and in-laws, Ervin Steffen and Ruth Jacobs. A visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Eastman Funeral Home, New London with a rosary to be said around 3 pm. Funeral services will take place at 10 am on Saturday at St. Edward Church, 501 Cottage St, Ashland with Father Rod Kreidler officiating. Burial will follow at Ruggles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations can be given in Dennis' name to the Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805 or donor's favorite choice.
