Obituary

Derwood Mullins, 93, of Sullivan, died at his home on Sunday, September 7, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on December 1, 1931 in Myra, KY to the late Nelson and Frances (nee Hall) Mullins, Derwood grew up in Kentucky before moving to Ohio in the 1950s.

He retired from Wellington Industrial Tire and was a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.  Derwood loved to be outside and enjoyed gardening. He liked doing small engine and bicycle repairs, collecting diecast cars and watching sports. Above all, Derwood treasured time spent with this loving family.

Derwood is survived by his children, Melinda Birchfield, of Wellington; Don (Leslie) Mullins, of Ashland, Bonnie (Kenny) Pocock, of Norwalk, Dewayne (Judy) Mullins, of North Carolina and Dana (Mary) Mullins, of Medina; 23 grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren. He also is survived by his siblings, Larry Mullins, of Texas, Maggie (Dick) Hawp and Juanita Elswick, all of South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Bernadine; son, David Mullins; son-in-law, Tom Birchfield; sisters, Ruth, Mary and Nancy and brothers, Mahlon and Benny.

On Friday, September 12, family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington with Pastor David N. Mullins, Jr. officiating. Fond memories and condolences can be given at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
