Deven "Devo" Phillips will be remembered as a young man who looked for, and believed in, the goodness of people. If you were fortunate enough to meet or know him, it didn't take long to realize that he possessed an extraordinary amount of good within himself. Deven passed from this life to the next unexpectedly on September 1st, 2015. As a fitting example of his character, he chose to give the gift of life to others through organ donation.
Born on March 7, 1995 in Norwalk to Shawn Phillips and Bobbi (Hudberg), Devo attended elementary school in Greenwich, then both middle and high school in New London, where he was part of the graduating class of 2013. He will be deeply missed by both communities as well as much of the surrounding area where he spent all of his still young adult life.
Devo was a social guy and he loved hanging out with his brother and best friend Derek Phillips, as well as his sister, who he affectionately referred to as "the sister", Lexi Phillips. He cherished time with his many friends and large family. In addition to his siblings, Devo is survived by his parents, Eric and Bobbi Hudberg, and Shawn Phillips; grandparents, Bob (aka "Farfar") and Joette (aka "Oma") Hudberg, Gary and Sharon Ramsey, Pam Phillips and Ron and Juvallin Phillips. Other family members include, Zach and Courtney Ringler and their children Ava, Kenly and Foster; Brian and Deana Hall; Gary Ramsey and his children Hailey, Caleb andXander; Josh and Em Phillips and their children Rex and Elsie; Brandon and Angie Risner and their children Weston, Emmersyn, and Dempsey; Curt and Jen Hudberg and their children Roland and Cambria; Jason and Heidi Hudberg and their children Owen and Daniel; Wendy Mosely and her children Keri and Kurtis.
Deven was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Bob Ringler; maternal great grandmother Betty Arnold; cousin ParkerRingler; great grandfather Cye Ringler; paternal grandparents Mary and Elvie Adkins, Hulen Phillips and Beaulah Phillips; and paternal great uncle Larry Adkins.
In addition to his steadfast dedication to his family, Devo also held a special place in his heart for the Chicago Bears. He was a gamer who appreciated good music and movies (Star Wars, Back to the Future, and Lord of the Rings, to name a few of the classics). He loved basketball, was a founding member of the NFFL, and liked spending time on Snapchat.
Devo attended The Foundation Church, and he gave selflessly to others regularly as an avid blood donor.
Deven had worked as a landscaper, stockperson at Menard's, STNA at Brethren Care, and as a server at Johnny Biggs and Bob Evans. He was working toward obtaining his degree in International Business.
Visitation for Deven will be held on Sunday September 6th from 2-5 pm at the New London Alliance Church, 4625 Ohio State Route162, New London, Ohio 44851. Funeral Services will begin following a brief break after the visitation at 7 pm with Deven's "Farfar" Pastor Bob Hudberg officiating. In lieu of flowers and other items, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Devo's memory to any Sutton Bank location, with "Devo Phillips" in the memo line, made out to "Eric Hudberg" where they will be directed towards a scholarship fund being setup in his name.
