IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dolores Ruth
Brown
February 3, 1930 – January 26, 2025
Dolores Ruth Brown passed away on January 26, 2025 at Mercy Health New Life Hospice in Lorain, one week prior to her 95th birthday. She was born on February 3, 1930 to Van and Mildred Carmen and was a lifelong resident of Wellington. She graduated from Wellington High School in 1948.
In 1949 she met a young man who had returned from post war military service in Japan. Dolores and Ralph Brown were married on November 27, 1950 at the First Methodist Church in Wellington by Ralph's father, Rev. Paul Brown.
During the 1950's and 1960's Dolores was always involved with the activities of her three boys. For ten years she served as a room mother at Wellington Elementary School, was a Cub Scout den mother, Sunday School teacher, little league baseball fan, DeMolay mom, and WHS band booster member. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wellington.
Her world was devastated when on July 17, 1970, her beloved husband Ralph died suddenly while coaching a little league baseball game. With three boys at home, Dolores fulfilled the role of two parents.
Over the years, Dolores worked for Lawson's in Wellington; in admissions at the former Wellington Hospital, serving that role until the hospital closed; and for many years with GLW Cable TV, where she was a friend to everyone who stopped in to pay their cable bill. She loved "tinkering in the yard" and following her beloved Cleveland sports teams.
Dolores is survived by her sons, Steve (Marianne), Lexington; Doug, Wellington; and Jeff (Cynthia), Wellington; her sister Cheryl Easterday (Gary), Ashland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her Booma. Her grandchildren are Arianna (Matt) Holtwick; Stefanie (Kevin) Kellenberger; Carly (John) Zuchak; Kyle (Shannon) Brown; Alex Brown; and Abby Brown. Great grandchildren left with fond memories of Booma are Camden and Madelyn Holtwick, Ava Kellenberger, Jackson Zuchak, Brooks and Bentley Brown.
Per Dolores's request, there will be no funeral service or visitation. There will be a private graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Wellington, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Ralph. The family is thankful to the Norton-Eastman Funeral Home and Rev. Hyeran Yu of the First Methodist Church in Wellington. They are sincerely grateful to the loving care given from the staff at New Life Hospice.
Dolores has always been known for being kind, caring and compassionate toward any person fortunate to have known her. She often donated to the local Methodist Church, Salvation Army, Friendship APL, St. Jude's Children's Hospital among others. In lieu of flowers please offer any act of kindness toward another person or charitable organization.
Condolences for the Brown family may be given at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
