Obituary

Don M. Smith died at home on November 27, 2010 after a 1 1/2 year battle with cancer; he was 61. Don was born on September 20, 1949 in Berea, son of the late Leon and Lois Smith. He grew up in Columbia Station and has lived in Wellington over 40 years. Don worked as a core setter for Sterling Foundry in Wellington and later as a sales associate at Wal-Mart in Oberlin. He was a former member of Wellington Eagles. Don enjoyed bowling at Strike Out Lanes and spending time fishing. He was an avid NASCAR and Demo Derby fan as well. Don is survived by his wife of 34 years, Chris; a daughter, Kelly Simulcik of Wellington; 2 sons, Doug and Amy Smith of Woodville and Donnie (Colleen Poland) Smith of Wellington; and Darrell Schick and Joe Kiser, who Don considered as sons. Don is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Kiley, Jorden, Tyler, Alivia and Jaelynn; 2 sisters, Sharon Scott of Grafton, Lori of North Carolina; 3 brothers, Richard Smith of Wellington, Edward Smith of Columbia Station and Skip Smith of Berea. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 1 from 11 to 12:30 at the Norton-Eastman Funeral Home 370 South Main, Wellington, where services will be held at 12:30 with Pastor Chris Reutepohler officiating. The burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Life Hospice, 5255 North Abbe Rd., Elyria, OH 44035.
