Donald Akers, age 78 of New London died Saturday, November 3, 2007 at his home, after a short illness. He was born December 8, 1928 in Floyd County, Kentucky, son of the late, Amos & Stella (Hall) Akers. He had lived in Kentucky and Ohio all of his life; and in New London since 2003. Donald was a graduate of Betsy Layne High School and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Church of Christ and the American Legion Delaware Post #0883. Donald was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He is survived by his wife, Juanita; sons, Larry Akers of Harold, KY, Donald Hamilton of Fitchville, Danny Akers of Galion and Randolf Akers of Galveston, KY; daughters, Nickie Hall of Grethel, KY, Dianna Miller of Bellevue, Donna Pierce and Diane Hall both of Versailles, KY, and Denise Conn of Crestline; step sons, Al Hamilton, Jr. Of Nova, Ron Hamilton of New London, Tony Hamilton of Texas, Lawrence Hamilton of Harold, KY and Terrence Hamilton of Wakeman; step daughters, Pamela Roos of Norwalk, Mary VonBehren of New London and Libby Ives of Wakeman; 32 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia May Case of Grethel, KY. He was preceded in death by brothers, Carmel, Ijellen and Arvel Akers; a sister, Pauline Akers; and a granddaughter, Renee Hall. Friends may call 5- 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London where funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2007 with visitation one hour prior.
