Donald C. Runkle, 89, of Greenwich, died Monday, November 16, 2009 at Norwalk Memorial Home. He was born on August 22, 1920 in New London, son of the late Ralph and Hazel Runkle. Donald lived in Ashland and most of his life in the Greenwich area. He farmed for many years and worked several years at Central Plastics. Donald worked 17 years at Akron Standard Mold until he retired. He was an avid softball and South Central girl's volleyball and girl's basketball fan. Survivors include his daughter, Debra (Ron) Lacy of Greenwich; son, Gerald Runkle of New London; daughter-in-law, Judith Runkle of Greenwich; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen L. Runkle in 2005; son, Richard Runkle; great grandson, Cody Runkle; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Runkle; sister, Eva Jean Wolf; brothers, Bernard Runkle, Walter Runkle, Ralph Runkle and Jack Runkle. Friends may call Wednesday, November 18 from 5-8 p.m. at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Hudberg officiating. Burial will be held at Edwards Grove Cemetery, Greenwich.
