Donald R. Whitney, age 85, of Wellington, died Wednesday morning, September 5, 2007 at his home after a long illness. He was born September 20, 1921 in Pittsfield, Ohio, son of the late Charles and Olive (Widdson) Whitney. He had lived his entire life in the Pittsfield and Wellington areas. Mr. Whitney was a 1939 graduate of Wellington High School. He had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War on a Destroyer escort. He worked at Perry Motors in Wellington and owned and operated the Whitney Shell Station for over 30 years in Wellington.
Mr. Whitney loved to fish and go bowling.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan (Norton) Whitney; 4 sons, Rich (Lori) Whitney of Oberlin, Skip (Cynthia) Whitney of Wellington, Bruce (Diana) Whitney of Katy, Texas and
Todd (Kandi) Whitney of Wellington; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Wilma McDole and Mary Webber both of Oberlin. He was preceded in death by his sister, Velma Brill.
Friends may call from 6 - 9 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2007 at the Norton - Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Private family services will be held. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the
