Doris June Hess, 86, passed away at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk on Friday, January 15, 2016. Born June 6, 1929 in New London, to the late Henry and Clara Knapp, she graduated from New London High School in 1947. She was a lifelong resident of New London and Norwalk, and worked at Huron County Human Services for 10 years until retiring in 1989. June enjoyed Bingo, casinos, reading and watching soap operas. In her later years she enjoyed traveling and cruises. Survivors include her children, Sharon (Gary) Eastman of Norwalk, Carol (Richard) Schafer of Norwalk, John Hess of North Fairfield, Jerry "Bugs" (Marty) Hess of Norwalk, Cindy (Ron) Carey of Toledo, Jeff (Peggy) Hess of New London and Lynda ("Rocky") Hess of Norwalk; 20 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and 1 on the way. June was preceded in death by her husband, Jim "Jing" in 1993; son, Jim in 1989; daughter, Pat in 2015; son-in-law, Leo in 2012; 1 granddaughter; 2 grandsons and a great granddaughter. June's family will greet friends Monday, January 18th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Eastman Funeral Home, New London where services will be held at 11 am Tuesday. Burial will be at Grove Street Cemetery, New London. Memorial contributions in Doris' name can be given to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 3100 West Central Avenue, Suite 235, Toledo, Ohio 43606.
