Doris Mae (Eneix) Redies, age 98, of Los Osos, California and formerly of New London, Ohio, died September 10, 2011 in San Luis Obispo, CA.
Doris was born in Warren, Minnesota on May 21, 1913. The family moved to Michigan while she was still a young girl and she attended local schools, graduating from the University of Michigan in 1934, in the same class as Gerald Ford. She earned her baccalaureate degree in French. She married Elliott Edward Redies in 1935. She was the mother of two children, Virginia (Ginny) Mary and Gerald (Buzz) Edward. She was a stay at home mom for many years, serving as the president of the local PTA and engaging in hobbies such as bridge, cooking, gardening, reading and needlepoint. In 1956, she and Elliott purchased the New London (Ohio) Record and she worked both in the front shop writing articles and billing and in the back shop doing job printing. They retired in 1971 and sold the paper to Thom Mezick. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mary Eneix, her sister, Marilyn Willis, her husband, Elliott Edward Redies, in 1989, her son, Gerald Redies, in 2004 and two great grandchildren, Madeleine and Margaret Hotz. In 1989, she moved to California to be nearer to her daughter.
Doris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ginny and Roger Randall, seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Phil) Hotz, Jocelyn (Robert) Leonard, Jessica ( Jason) Blackketter, Jeremy Randall, Julie (Jonathan) Blackketter, Josh (Sabrina) Randall, and Jill Randall, and fourteen great grandchildren, Victoria and Noah Hotz, Sydney and Scott Leonard, Lisa , Luke and Laura Blackketter, Damon Randall, Brandon, Kate and Trevor Blackketter, and Quinn, Dax and Aiden Randall.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Grove Street Cemetery in New London. Rev. Ben Black, pastor of the New London United Methodist Church, will officiate. Eastman Funeral Home in New London is in charge of arrangements in Ohio. A memorial service will be held in San Luis Obispo at a later time. Memorials may be given in Doris' name to the Garden Club of New London.
