Doris Mae Schriver (nee Kite), 75, of Wellington, Ohio, passed peacefully June 17, 2009 in Oberlin, Ohio with family and friends at her side. Born 1934 in North Charleroi, PA, she was nicknamed 'Billie' by her late parents Paul and Verna Kite (nee Levandosky). She was a coal miner's daughter. In 1953 she graduated from West Bethlehem High School, and on October 31st of that year she married the love of her life, Alvin Schriver (deceased) in Winchester, Virginia. They resided in Marianna, PA until 1963 when they made their home in Wellington, Ohio.
Doris was a very active and hardworking person who loved the outdoors. One could usually find her working in her yard, closely followed by her constant companion, Inky, 'The Pug'. She enjoyed being in the sun, planting flowers, gardening and maintaining her home's elaborate landscape. Her backyard water garden was featured on fundraising tours for Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland. It has also served as the backdrop for wedding and graduation pictures of friends as well as complete strangers who were drawn to the beauty of it. Her greatest devotion and passion in life were her children. She greatly enjoyed cooking for her son, Doug Schriver and traveling with her daughter, Laura. She was a great lady who touched the lives of everyone she met.
Family will receive friends at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington, Ohio on Saturday, June 20 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. She will be laid to rest at Horn Cemetery in Marianna, PA on Monday, June 22, at 2 pm.
