Dorothy L. Sutherland, 97, of New London, died Friday, October 1, 2010 at The Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in New London. She was born November 7, 1912 in Mifflin, Ohio to the late LeRoy and Grace Stillwagon Gongwer. She grew up in Ashland and had lived in New London since 1936. Dorothy was a graduate of Ashland High School. She helped with the Burner Sutherland Hardware Store and worked at Wright Jewelry Store in New London for several years. Dorothy was a member of the New London United Methodist Church and worked on the board of elections for many years. She is survived by her loving children, Gayle Ashbaker of New London, John and Tina Gray Sutherland of Darby, Montana and David and Sandra Sutherland Burner of Darby, Montana; four Grandchildren, Julie Gardner, Laura Luth, Thom Nickoli and Amanda Sutherland Goodwin; eleven great grandchildren; and her sister, Alice Davis of Ashland. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Ira W. Sutherland and two brothers, Richard and Russell Gongwer. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London with Pastor Cheryl Roshon officiating.
