Dortha Jean Cunningham, 81, residing in Wellington, passed away Wednesday evening, June 21, 2023, at New Life Hospice in Lorain.

Dortha was born in Lorain, OH on February 3, 1942, to the late Ina (James) and Louis Sheller. She graduated from Wellington High School in 1960 and married Carl Cunningham on June 22, 1963. Dortha passed away one day shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. She moved to Berea where she raised her family and lived for 39 years. Dortha's home was one where everyone was welcome. She enjoyed having a yard full of kids and being a neighborhood mom. Dortha was a wonderful homemaker. Her children have memories of listening to music with her and dancing in the living room. She loved meeting new people and made friends wherever she went. Dortha enjoyed traveling, especially to Arizona and Italy, where her father is buried. She also had a passion for playing piano and music in general.

Dortha is survived by her loving husband, Carl Cunningham; children, Deborah (William) Hall of Ashland; Melanie (Anthony) Citino of Parma, David (Denise) Cunningham of Mantua, and Christopher Cunningham of Illinois; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren with one more on the way, and sisters, Betty (John) Derrer and Jannie Johnston.

In addition to her parents, Dortha was preceded in death by her stepfather, John Shakir.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2023, from 2 pm to 5 pm at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington, OH 44090. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, at 10 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 512 North Main Street, Wellington, OH 44090. Procession and burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Wellington.
