Obituary

Douglas Dean Dobson, 67, of Wellington, died Monday, November 10, 2014 at EMH University Hospital in Elyria after a short illness. He was born on October 28, 1947 in Lodi to the late Willard and Verna (Pitz) Dobson. He was a graduate of Black River High School. Doug proudly served his country in Vietnam in the United States Army. Doug worked as a Park Ranger at Findley State Park for nearly 29 years. He truly loved the park and the outdoors. He enjoyed volunteering at the nature center at Findley after retirement. Doug also enjoyed kayaking, fishing, biking, bird watching and hiking. He was also a skilled wood carver. Doug cherished time that he spent with his friends and his family. Doug is survived by his companion of 28 years Nina Willis; daughters Michelle (Joe) Clay of Albion and Christine (Lucas) Blayney of Ashland; step-children Shawn (Carol) Willis of MI, Tristina (Joe) Eck of Copley, Dawn Resar of Carlisle TWP, and Rita (Scott) Wacker of Centerville; grandchildren Taylor, Noah, Ashley, Amanda, Kayla, Jonathan, James, Angela, Ally, Owen, and Grant; and great-grandchildren Braison and Paisley. Doug is also survived by his siblings Marlene (Fred) Jisa of Homerville, Donna (Tom) Robishaw of Sullivan, Becky Dobson of Spencer, and Laura (Larry) Fortner of East Sparta, and an uncle Russell Pitz of New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his brother Willard. Friends and family will gather for a memorial celebration on November 22, 2014 at the American Legion Post 8, 518 South Main Street, Wellington, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate Doug's life. A private family burial will take place at Spencer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be given in Doug's memory to the Findley State Park Nature Center, 25381 State Route 58, Wellington, Ohio 44090.
