Obituary

E. Harrison 'Harry' DeLong, 88, of New London, died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at The Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Firelands, New London. Born on October 25, 1923, in Kenova, West Virginia, of the late E. H. and Alice (Roberts) DeLong. He grew up in Akron, lived in Ashland and resided in New London for the past 26 years. Harry served in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked at Abbott Lab in Ashland, retiring in 1992 and worked several years for Walmart. He also mowed the New London Township cemeteries. He was a member of the New London United Methodist Church, Ashland Masonic Lodge and Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite Freemasonry. Harry is survived by his wife, Karen A. (Monroe) DeLong; daughters, Karen S. (Bruce) DeLong Corts of Westerville, Alyssa Corinne (Ed) Speck of Independence, MO and Diane DeLong of Indianapolis; stepdaughter, Kay (Joel) Copley of New London; stepson, David (Robin) Cassidy of North Fairfield; four grandsons; four step grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sisters, Reba Johnson and Linda Wheeler and brother, Ralph DeLong. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-5 pm at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London where a service will be held Monday at 11 am with Pastor Ben Black officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron. Memorials may be directed to the New London United Methodist Church Renovation Fund, 58 East Main Street, New London, Ohio 44851.
