Obituary

Genevieve E. Landis, age 95, of Norwalk, died Friday, November 16, 2007 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, after a brief illness. Ms Landis was born September 16, 1912 in Rochester Twp., Lorain County, Ohio, daughter of the late Van R. & Gertrude (Rowland) Landis. She was a 1929 graduate of New London High School and graduated from the Oberlin School of Commerce. She lived most of her life in Elyria and had lived at the Carriage House in Norwalk for the past two years. Genevieve worked for Oberlin College for a brief time. She worked in many executive positions for Sherwin Williams, the former Colson Corp., as well as director of personnel for the Plumbrook Ordnance of Sandusky. Her final 28 years of employment were with the Bendix Westinghouse Corp. of Elyria, as Executive Secretary to the Vice President and General Manager. Ms. Landis was very active in the YWCA of Elyria, serving in many positions of support and leadership, including the Holly League and Holly Birthday Club. She also served a term on the Red Cross Disaster Committee and was in charge of record keeping. She volunteered as a receptionist at the Elyria Methodist Home for 10 years. She was a member of the Elyria Methodist Church. She is survived by a sister & brother in law, Margaret & Tom Johnson of New London; a sister in law, Eleanor Landis of Nova; an uncle, Ford Rowland of Ashland; nieces & nephews, Janet Thonen, Robert Johnson, William Johnson, Tim Johnson, Barbara Knoll, Richard Landis, Mary Ellen Neuzil, Sharon Rebmann, Gary Landis, Greg Landis, Kevin Landis and Christine Crawshaw, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Ms. Landis was preceded in death by her brothers, Howard and Harold Landis. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2007 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London and from 1:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 20, 2007 at the funeral home. Rev. Cathy Ake, pastor of the New London United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will follow in Grove Street Cemetery in New London.
