E. Hale McClaflin, 91, of Clarksfield, died at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Monterey Care Center in Grove City.
He was born on October 26, 1919 in Clarksfield, the son of Benjamin and Bertha Harland McClaflin. Hale was a graduate of New London High School and Oberlin Business School. He married Betty Haskins in 1949. They had a long, happy marriage that included many trips to visit their children and grandchildren.
Hale so enjoyed being a steward of the McClaflin farm, especially walking in the woods surrounded by cherry and walnut trees. He was a retired dairy farmer as well as a retired township trustee after 30 years of service. Hale celebrated his 60th year as a member of the Masonic Fraternity in 2010. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945 and on the local Veterans board for many years. Hale developed a keen interest in airplanes while serving his country and that interest continued until his death. He loved his beloved German Shepherd dogs ' Candy, Cody and Sieben. Hale was a good neighbor, always willing to lend a helping hand.

In addition to his parents and wife, Betty, Hale was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and Harland as well as sisters, Hazel Bracey, Hope Ferguson, Hyla Wood, Hester Schmidt and Helen Williams. He is survived by his daughters, Michele (Ted) Robbins of Stuart, Florida, Lisa (Sid) Robbins of Ashville, Ohio and son, John (Sue) McClaflin of Clarksfield; granddaughters, Sarah (Mark) Riedy, Kristina Robbins; grandsons, Wade, Drew and Charlie Robbins and great granddaughters, Isabella and Sydnie Reidy.
