Earl R. Hartley, age 76, of Greenwich, died Monday, August 13, 2007 from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Norwalk.
Mr. Hartley was born October 8, 1930 in New London, son of the late, Earl M. & Gladys (Sheets) Hartley. He grew up in the Shelby and Plymouth area. Earl had lived in Greenwich for over 50 years. He was a 1949 Ashland High School graduate and had served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a sales representative for the former Shelby Business Forms (Miami Business Systems) and retired in 2003 from CRI of Shelby. He was a member of the Greenwich United Methodist Church, where he was a lay speaker, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. He had served on the Greenwich Village Council. Earl had officiated High School football and basketball for many years, he was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Mary Beth (Bowen) Hartley; a daughter, Lynne Hartley Phillips of Greenwich; 3 sons, Scott (Jody) Hartley of Delaware, Brian (Paula) Hartley of Grand Rapids, MI and Kelly Hartley of Columbus; 6 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson; a half sister, Bunetta Coats of PA; and a half brother, James of GA. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven E. Hartley in 1973; a brother, Richard Hartley; step mother, Alice Hartley; 2 half sisters, Diana Robinson and Julie Hartley.
Friends may call from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at the Greenwich United Methodist Church with Pastor Georgette Gaston officiating. Burial will follow in Edwards Grove Cemetery, Greenwich.
