Norwalk, Ohio - Earl E. Sams, 78, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2016, in Cleveland Metro Hospital. He was born May 11, 1937 in Liberty, Missouri, to the late Charles W. and Alpha L. (Statesel) Sams, and came to this area in 1943 from Liberty, Missouri. Earl was a member of the Norwalk First Church of Christ, and was a former member of the Bronson Norwalk Conservation Club. He retired from the City of Norwalk, water and street departments, in 1989. Earl was also a former employee of the Schine Theatre in Norwalk, Ohio. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Earl is survived by his wife of 54 years, Florence E. (Hersha) Sams of Norwalk, Ohio, and by his daughter, Rita M. (Joe) Hyre of Norwalk, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Robert, Ryan, Zachary, and Katie Jo, by 4 great grandchildren, and by his siblings, Charlene Gilliam of Castalia, Ohio, Charles W. Sams, Jr. of Huron, Ohio, Louis R. (Karen) Sams of Norwalk, Ohio, Glenna D. Mullins of Huron, Ohio, Frank H. (Dorothy) Sams of Collins, Ohio, John A. (Gerry) Sams of Mt. Gilead, Ohio, Gary L. (Donna) Sams of Norwalk, Ohio, and Rita M. (Thomas) Wechter of Norwalk, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Sams in 2013, and by his sisters, Alpha Johns, and Mickey Stout. Friends may call on Monday, February 29, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Roger George will officiate.
