Obituary

Earl Ray Swander, age 91, of Delphi, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at his home. He was born March 30, 1918 in Ripley Twp., Ohio, son of the late Franklin R. and Veneta (Leonard) Swander. He was a lifelong resident of Ripley Twp. Earl was a 1936 graduate of North Fairfield High School. He had been a dairy farmer from 1939 until 1967 and continued to do grain farming until the early 1980's. Earl had been a Ripley Twp. Trustee for 30 years. He was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Miller) Swander; his daughters, Shari (Andy) Hiltbrunner and Marilee (Tom) Chandler all of Greenwich, Lyn (Carl) Urie of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; 3 Stepdaughters, Jennifer Blanton of Galion, Heather (Walter) Glenn of Manfield, Amy (Rob) Reeder of Galion; his sister, Marvel Smeltz of Willard. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Mae Swander in 1985, his infant son, Dennis Earl Swander. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Delphi United Methodist Church, 628 U.S. Rte. 224, Willard with Rev. Allen Rose and Pastor Georgette Gaston officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven. Memorials if desired may be given to the Community Hospice Care, 181 E. Perry St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883.
