Obituary

Edmund Lewis Maynard, 89, of New London, died Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange. Born on December 15, 1933 in Muskegon, Michigan, he was the son of the late Percy and Mary (nee Lowe) Maynard. Following graduation, Ed served in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. While in the Air Force, he was stationed at Red Cliff Radar Station at Pepperrell Air Force Base in Newfoundland. Ed moved to Ohio in the early 60's and then in 1990, he built his own home in New London.

Ed was a supervisor of enroute traffic with the FAA in Oberlin and retired in 1986 after 33 years. A talented mechanic and woodworker, Ed loved to toil away in his shop, restoring antique tractors and hit and miss engines, and owned a steam engine. He was an active member of the LaGrange Engine Club and was a past president. Ed was also instrumental in moving the Engine Show to the Fair Grounds in Wellington. In his younger years Ed built and flew radio controlled airplanes. When he wasn't working on engines, Ed enjoyed spending time outdoors with nature, caring for his horses, dogs and cats, or watching the blue birds, purple martins and wood ducks, though no love was lost over the woodchucks and muskrats.

Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Carolyn (nee Doenges); children, Melody (Michael) Uszak, of Rome City, IN, Michael (Michele) Maynard, of Vermilion, and Pamela (Glen) Norris, of LaGrange; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
