Estero, Florida - Edna Ellen (McMorrow) Butler, 88, of Estero, Florida, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 in Hope Hospice, Bonita Springs, Florida. Oh when I come to the end of my journey, weary of life, and the battle is won, carrying the staff and the cross of redemption, He'll understand and say well done. She was born in 1929 in Clay County, West Virginia. Edna was one of 12 children, nine of whom survived infancy, born to Willis and Mattie McMorrow of Grove's Creek. Her parents were subsistence farmers, and life during the Great Depression was a hard-scramble affair for adults and children. At the age of 17, Edna married a local boy, Ralph Mack Butler, on leave from a long hitch with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. Following the wedding, and a short honeymoon, Ralph was called for a two year stint in China. When he returned home he was reacquainted with his wife, and met his infant daughter. Shortly thereafter, the couple moved to Norwalk, Ohio, where Edna and Ralph spent the rest of their working lives. In 1998 the couple moved to their retirement home in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida. Ralph lost his battel to cancer the following year, and oldest daughter, Connie, along with her husband Ron Lewis, also of Ft. Myers, saw to Edna's care. Edna is survived by three children; Connie Lewis, Gail Kuk, and John R. Butler, by 6 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Joan Nutter and Marietta Duffield. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Opal Ramsey, Lee Miller, Pearly Alice Nutter, Hester Graham, Anna McMorrow, and Francis McMorrow, and by her brothers, Clarence McMorrow, Paul McMorrow, and Charles McMorrow. Friends may call on Monday, April 10, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Paul Lamb will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio. Send Condolences
