Norwalk, Ohio – Edward J. Maynard, 78, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 in Stein Hospice Service, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on December 12, 1941, to the late Adam E. and Helen L. (Pyles) Maynard in Scioto Furnace, Ohio and graduated from South Webster High School. Following graduation, Ed joined the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Kitty Wake in Norfolk, VA.
He was employed by Western and Southern Railroad, now known as Norfolk and Southern Railroad, as a mechanic and engineer until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of the Norwalk First Baptist Church in Norwalk and he enjoyed woodworking, traveling, going to Amish country with his wife, hunting, and he loved to tinker". Ed was known by many as a jokester and really enjoyed aggravating his family any chance he could, he also really enjoyed "supervising" his children and spending his time with his family. Many who adored Ed called him "PA".
He is survived by his children, Trena (Matt) Faulkner of Norwalk, Ohio, Michael (Catherine) Maynard of Tupelo, Mississippi, Lisa (Mark) Makovic of Greenville, North Carolina, and Timothy (Alyssa) Maynard of Norwalk, Ohio, by his grandchildren Miranda, Cody, Jason, Justin, Jacob, Kiersten, Sydnee, Curtis, Kyle, Peyton, Matthew and Karsyn. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Alyssa, Ethan, Dylan, Tristan, Grant, Kinzley, Kylie, Joran, Jaycee, Layla, Tala and Blakely, by his siblings, Walter (Wanda) Maynard, Janie Rowels, and Jessie (Richard) Kuhn, all of South Webster, Ohio, and Edwanna (Art) Holmes of Springfield, Ohio, and by his beloved pet "Bella".
Ed is preceded in death by his true love of 57 years, Bernice Maynard, earlier this year, by his daughter, Sherry Patterson, by his great grandson Gavin, and by his siblings, Noah and Robert Lee Maynard in infancy, Carl Fields, Maybelle Maynard and Sarah Wicker.
Friends may call on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. in Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St. Norwalk, Ohio 44857.
