Gene Sparks, age 80 of Willard, died Monday, June 18, 2007 at home after a short illness. He was born January 30, 1927 in Greenwich Twp., Ohio, son of the late Donald Peter and Pluma (Reynolds) Sparks. He was a lifelong resident of the Delphi area. Mr. Sparks was a lifelong farmer. He bred and sold Columbia Sheep. He had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the L.S.T. 509. He also was the owner of Modelog Homes, and the owner and operator of Sparky's Stables. He had been a past director of the Huron County Fair Speed Dept., a former Ripley Township Trustee, and a retired school bus driver for Greenwich and South Central Schools. He was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, a member of the Fairfield Lodge 261 F&AM, a 32nd Degree Scottish Right Valley of Toledo Mason, a member of the Greenwich V.F.W. Post 7492, the Greenwich American Legion Mil Bow Mar Post 280.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce E. (Rang) Sparks; a son, Don (Lori) Sparks of Plymouth; 3 daughters, Bonnie (Gary) Albright of Willard, Jan (Rich) Ryerson of Plymouth, Karen (Harold) Dickinson of Norwalk; 10 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Marjorie Huston of Willard and Marilyn (Sam) Predieri of Willard; a brother, Keith (Gert) Sparks of Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 - 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 21 at the funeral home with Pastor Georgette Gaston officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh.
