Obituary

Edwin Alan Barnes, 76, of New London was welcomed into the arms of his Savior, peacefully in his home on December 3, 2024. Ed grew up in Shreve, Ohio and moved to New London in 1962 where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Cook. After graduation Ed attended Wooster Business College, and in 1969 was drafted into the Army and served with the 101st Airborne. He was sent to Vietnam for a year long tour, receiving the Bronze Star. Upon his return he spent 30 years farming, which he dearly loved. In 2001, life took an unexpected turn and he moved his family to Indiana, where he managed the North Manchester NAPA store, which was a welcomed reminder of the days working with his dad in the store he owned growing up. In 2020, he was able to retire and returned to his home in New London, Ohio. Despite the many physical challenges he faced in life, he was one of the hardest working and kindest people you would ever know. He loved deeply, especially his family.

Among his hobbies were train collecting, riding his motorcycle, playing golf with friends and target shooting with his boys. From his time serving as 4-H advisor of the New London County Line Kids, he made life long friends and made many memories with the kids involved as well as with his own children. He also was very involved in his church where he spent time serving as a deacon and being the friendly face you saw when you entered the church building on the welcome team. But most of all he loved spending time with his family doing activities such as boating, camping and fishing trips with his boys.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy of 55 years; children, Robin Dupree (Joel), Jeremy, Jonathan (Jennifer) and Abigail Eliker (Jon-Eric); brother Jeffery (Deb); grandchildren, David (Jenna). Elizabeth, Grace, Benjamin, Audrey, Andrew, Mackenzie, Levi and Addison; great-grandchildren, Carlie, Ruthie, and Timothy; and his beloved dog, Rusty.

Edwin was preceded in death by his mother, Louise; father, Roy; and step-mother, Fannie.
