Eleanor Jean Rippon, 84, formerly of Clarksfield passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, under hospice care in South Carolina. Born on August 31, 1939, in Norwalk, Jean was the daughter of the late George and Louise (nee Harris) Wargo, Jr.
A 1957 New London High School graduate, Jean attended Bowling Green State University, earning a bachelor's degree in 1969. Jean was a proud Martha Holden Jennings Scholar recipient. She began teaching at Clarksfield Elementary school and finished her career at Monroeville. She dearly loved spending time with her family and her beloved cat Pumpkin. She also enjoyed going to casinos, feeding the hummingbirds and making crafts with her great-grandchildren. Survivors include her daughters, Dawn (Dennis) Miller, of Louisville, OH and Denise (Rich) Smothers, of Anderson, SC; grandchildren, Tabetha (Bill) Norris and Zachary (Brenna) Smothers and great grandchildren, Ian, Lydia, Gianna and Eli Norris and Jon Paul, Lincoln and Mila Jean Smothers. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, George Frederick Rippon. Visitation will be held Sunday , August 18, 2024, from 12:30 pm until the time of the service at 1:30 pm at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main Street, New London, Ohio 44851. Burial will follow at Clarksfield Cemetery.
