Elizabeth Klooz Skeeles, 89, of Sullivan died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008 at Akron General Hospital after a sudden illness. Elizabeth was born in Valley City on Dec. 31, 1918 to the late Elmer and Vera Klooz. She graduated from Sullivan High School in 1937 and received her 2 year teaching certificate from Ashland College in 1939. Elizabeth enlisted in the Army WAC from 1944 to 1946. Following her service to her country, she graduated from San Francisco State in 1948 with a bachelor of education degree.
Elizabeth taught kindergarten at Sullivan Elementary and lower elementary grades at Huntington. She was an active member at the First Congregational Church in Sullivan. Elizabeth enjoyed reading, gardening, playing the piano and singing. She also loved keeping her house and farm.
Survivors include her children, Marjorie Alice (David) Skeeles Kohn of Elyria, James Charles (Martha) Skeeles of Logan and John Herbert (Celia) Skeeles of Pearce, AZ; her grandchildren, Heather Rae Shiner, Angela Dawn Worley and Laura Elizabeth Skeeles; a sister, Mary Lamb Kloda of Lancaster; and nieces and nephews, Karen K. Roberts, Sondra Young Tomlinson, Becky Lamb Fair, Andrew Lamb and Mark Lamb. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 44 years, Charles Fredrick Skeeles. Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her sister, Kathryn; three brothers, John, Elmer, and Paul and her nephews, Kevin and Keith Klooz.
Friends and family will be received from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Monday, November 24 at the First Congregational Church, 503 U.S. Rte. 224, Sullivan, OH 44880. Burial will follow at Southview Cemetery in Sullivan. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church of Sullivan.
