IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elnor Jane
(Greene) Hilty
October 22, 1932 – January 16, 2025
Elnor Jane (Greene) Hilty, 92, of Huron, passed away January 16, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Born October 22, 1932 in Flatwoods, West Virginia, Elnor lived her life with a grace, kindness, and humor that touched the lives of all who knew her, Always striving to set a good example, she lived by the words she often quoted to her family… "good, better, best, never let it rest, til your good is better and your better best."
Elnor grew up in Cleveland, moving in her senior year to graduate from New London High School. After graduation, she married Herb Anderson, and together they raised two daughters, Brenda and Sherry. Always gentle and soft spoken, Elnor was a talented seamstress, cook, and homemaker. Very active in the community, she taught Sunday school at New London Methodist Church and served as a Girl Scout Leader. Elnor also was a past President of Broome Woods and American Legion Auxiliary in New London. Wanting to develop her creative side, she began to take painting lessons in 1970 from artists such as Franklin Bates and Fred Leach. Those lessons led to a successful career in watercolor painting.
In 1975, Elnor founded the Firelands Area Art League, which continues today. She taught classes and workshops to others, and it is here that she met the love of her life, artist Robert Hilty. They married in 1978 and soon began traveling across the country in their motor home to participate in art shows. Missing their grandchildren, they eventually settled in Huron and in 1984 opened a family business, Sand Hill Studio Gallery. Elnor had a deep inner faith and became a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church. Always admiring the beauty of God's creations, Elnor focused her painting on nature, and over her career produced and published 21 limited edition prints.
Elnor is survived by her daughters Brenda K. Sadoski and Sherry Glatte, both of Huron Ohio. Grandchildren Chad (Tina) Petroff, Matthew Petroff, Josh (Carol) Petroff, Ben Sosa, Jana Sosa, and Elizabeth Sosa.
