Obituary

Elouise Rowland Hardy, 80, of Norwalk died Saturday, August 20, 2011 peacefully in her sleep. Elouise was born in Rochester on September 11, 1930 to the late Ralph and Mildred (nee Wetzel) Rowland. She was a graduate of New London High School and after graduation Elouise went on to St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland. Elouise worked as a nurse and retired from Fisher Titus Medical Center in Norwalk after 25 years, she also worked on their Medical Center Scholarship board and the Home Health board. She was active with the Association of Operating Room Nurses, serving on the state and national level, she most recently founded the Nation Retired Nurses Forum. Elouise was also a member of the Ohio Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. Apart from Nursing, Elouise was active in several other areas of her community. She was a member of the New London Alliance Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was a Bible Study leader and a Deaconess. She was also a member of the Lorain County Farm Bureau, and Business and Professional Women. Elouise was a member of the Ohio Eastern Star Queen Esther Chapter in New London, and The Red Hats Delight, Elouise also cared deeply for the 4-H program and was inducted into the OSU Agricultural 4-H Hall of Fame in 1997. She was a 50 year volunteer leader for the Rochester Winning Workers, a member of the Lorain Co. Ext. Advisors Committee, a member of the Lorain Co. Advisory Committee, and the Volunteer Interview Committee. She was a member and helped found the Lorain Co. Endowment Board. Elouise is survived by her 3 daughters; Cynthia (Doug Driver) Hardy, Susan (Craig) Holman, and Nancy (Bob) Derby; 5 Grandchildren Steven and Jennifer Holman, Brendan and Margaret Dudley and Sean Derby; 3 great-grand children; and a sister Genevieve (Mick) Greenbank. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert B. Hardy. Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London, from 5-8 p.m. services will be held on Thursday, at the New London Alliance church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Howard Bowers.
