Elsie E. Hughes, 95, of New London, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2019 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain. She was born on February 24, 1924 in Concho, WV to the late Jasper and Willie Mae (nee McCormick) Smith. Elsie enjoyed parties, going out to eat, reunions, and church dinners. She loved watching the Food Network and attended Rochester Baptist Church. She had worked at the former Page Company Store and Howard Johnson when it first came to Ohio along the turnpike. Elsie is survived by her children, Wilma (Roy) Keffer of Wakeman and Wayne Hughes of New London; grandchildren, Jennifer (Joseph) Bottomlee and Julie (Robert) Shaw; siblings, James Smith, Roger Smith, Leona Smith-Dye, Dolly Smith-Keffer and Patsy Smith-Manning as well as her great grandchildren, Dustin and Matthew Bottomlee and Bryce Shaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas in 2004; son, Paul Hughes and siblings, Bob Smith, Grace Smith-Lewis, Lenard Smith and Etha Robertson. Services will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, West Virginia on Thursday April 11, 2019 beginning with a visitation at 1 pm until the time of the 2:30 pm service, which will be followed with burial at Kincaid Cemetery.
