Elsie Loretta Stegman, 84, of New London, died Sunday, February 5, 2017, at the Elms Retirement Village in Wellington. Born on November 26, 1932 in Avon Lake, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Viola (nee Jackson) Beck. Elsie graduated from Avon Lake High School before moving to Nova and then to the Brighton area with her husband.
Elsie started working for Thomas Creative Apparel as a seamstress and retired after 17 years. She was an active member of the Brighton United Methodist Church and the Butler Road Club. Elsie will be remembered for the delicious meals that she created. She enjoyed tending to her rose garden, watching birds in her back yard, and traveling with her family.
Survivors include her loving husband on 57 years, Louis Stegman; children Mark and Bryan Stegman, both of New London, and Marlene (Keith Collins) Strande of Amherst; grandson Michael (Deanna Forbush) Marley; siblings Elaine Valentin, Arlene Beck, and Russell Beck; and Godson Kurt Valentin. Elsie was preceded in death by her siblings Lillie Terry, and Carl Beck Jr.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, February 9, from 6-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington, 44090. Services will be held on Friday at the Brighton United Methodist Church, 51011 SR 18, Wellington, 44090, beginning at 11 a.m., with Rev. James Ellis officiating, burial will follow at Camden Twp Cemetery. Donations in Elsie's memory may be given to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, 44870.
